The cost to separate electricity for a granny flat varies significantly depending on the age and condition of your existing electrical infrastructure.
The physical meter installation
The actual smart meter is typically provided by an energy retailer or their appointed provider. Costs for the meter itself vary by retailer. The primary project costs often relate to the site preparation required before the meter can be installed.
Switchboard and meter box condition
If your existing meter box lacks space or contains outdated panels, you may need a switchboard or meter panel upgrade. A simple panel rearrangement is less expensive than a comprehensive switchboard replacement. Creating the physical space and compliant isolation switches is generally a prerequisite.
Consumer mains capacity
This is often a significant variable. If the current incoming supply cable is insufficient for the combined load, it may need to be upgraded.
