How to Separate Electricity Between a House and
Granny Flat
Separating electricity between a primary dwelling and a granny flat can involve site assessment, electrical upgrades, distributor requirements and retailer or metering-provider coordination.
Step 1: Assessing the current supply
The first step is assessing whether the existing electrical supply can accommodate the proposed combined load. The review can include the incoming cable, switchboard condition and physical space in the meter box. If the consumer mains are unsuitable for the proposed arrangement, an upgrade or a revised design may be needed.
Step 2: Electrical preparation
