Metering Guide

When is a Level 2
Electrician Required?

Establishing a separate electrical connection for a granny flat often crosses the line from standard electrical work into the domain of an Accredited Service Provider (Level 2 ASP).

What is a Level 2 ASP?

A standard electrician can wire the inside of the granny flat. A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to perform specific works on the network infrastructure connecting the street network to your property, subject to their specific authorisations and network rules.

Consumer mains upgrades

If the supply cable is unsuitable for the proposed combined load, consumer mains or related supply work may be needed. Work at or near the network connection can require appropriately authorised Level 2 capability, depending on the connection type and assessed scope.

Metering preparation and defect notices

Tasks such as upgrading the physical connection point or addressing certain defect notices issued by the distributor can require a Level 2 ASP. Having access to Level 2 capability can help coordinate these works.
